80 editions wrapped in a special evening. The Giro del Belvedere – prestigious U23 International classic to be held Monday, April 2nd in Villa di Cordignano (Treviso, Northern Italy) – turned on the spotlight with 10 days to go.

Attended by former winners, authorities and organizers, on Friday March 23rd, the Giro del Belvedere lived a nice “vernissage” in Treviso nearby, where the great expectation for the “Easter Monday Classic” 2018 edition gave way to histories and memories.

From the Track Olympic Champion Silvio Martinello to the two times Giro d’Italia overall winner Ivan Gotti. “In the 1983 edition, the route was characterized by the Conche circuit and very suitable to the sprinters – Olympic Champion Silvio Martinello explained. – I was one of the main favorites since I had already won the Popolarissima. I remember with pleasure the wonderful fans on the roads. Of course, the win at Giro del Belvedere made me aware of my skills”.

“In the year of my victory (1990), the race’s route included the Canalet hill, suited to the climbers  – twice Giro d’Italia overall winner Ivan Gotti said -. The team was very strong but the results were missing. The approach to the race of our Sports Director Olivano Locatelli was perfect and the win came. It was a relief, crucial in view of the following races and my debut in the pro’ category the year after”.

Giro del Belvedere’s OC chairman Gianfranco Carlet and the Pro Belvedere President Marco De Boni did the honors: “The 2017 edition – organization’s coordinator Efren Chies explained – confirmed the Giro del Belvedere bringing to prominence some of the brightest talents over the years. This is a great motivation for us”.

Italian Cycling Federation President Renato Di Rocco was unable to be at the event for health reasons. On the occasion of the vernissage, the Pro Belvedere unveiled the new book “Ultima curva a sinistra – 80 edizioni del Giro del Belvedere” (“Last turn on the left – 80 years of Giro del Belvedere”), written by Valentina Covre that reaffirms stories and memories of the Italian race.
