Giro del Belvedere to host Team Wiggins’ rising stars

The Continental team founded by Sir Bradley Wiggins will be at the start of the “Easter Monday Classic” on Monday April 2nd. Villa di Cordignano ready to welcome the best young prospects of British cycling

Team Wiggins is the latest high-end addition to the starting field of the 2018 Giro del Belvedere, to be held on Monday April 2nd in Villa di Cordignano (Treviso, Northern Italy). The 80th edition of the U23 International Classic promises to be spectacular as ever, while fielding a significant share of foreign power to go with the top outfits of the Italian panorama.

The Continental team founded in 2015 by Sir Bradley Wiggins – a World and Olympic Champion in his career, winner of the 2012 Tour de France – World and Olympic Championships on both the track and the road and the 2012 Tour the France – has a mission of working in perspective and growing young talents, with the ambition of raising tomorrow’s leaders. Team Wiggins’ philosophy is a perfect match with the Giro del Belvedere, a showcase that brought to prominence some of the brightest talents over the years, from Italy and beyond.

Standing out among Team Wiggins’ prospects is 18-year-old Tom Pidcock, who competes in cyclo-cross, a standout talent making impression in both road and cyclocross in spite of his young age. The route of the “Easter Monday Classic” could be perfectly suited for his puncheur’s skills. The traditional 166,6-Km course – characterized by the Conche hill, the classic Montaner climb in Borgo Canalet and the Via delle Longhe hill – seems tailor-made for Pidcock.

In his first season among U23, the prospect from Leeds could be an outsider to take it all. Though Team Wiggins has still to announce its lineup, Villa di Cordignano is ready to embrace “Pidders”.
