Winter is over, Spring is coming and this for cycling means Classics’ time. While the professionals tackle the Ardennes’ week, the Under 23 season reaches a moment with plenty of important international races, making it a crucial juncture of the year.

That is why on Monday April 17th, at the 79th Giro del Belvedere in Villa di Cordignano (Northern Italy), the best prospects in cycling, from Italy and beyond, will light up the show the roads of the Treviso province, with the goal of winning the prestigious international classic, whose glory blessed a number of great talents such as Maurizio Fondriest, Ivan Gotti and Olympic Champion Silvio Martinello.

200 riders, 40 teams (including 20 foreign) representing 14 Countries: the race’s leitmotif is the challenge between the Italian prospects and the international rising stars, starting from the defending champion, Swiss Patrick Muller (BMC Development Team), who will try to achieve an historical repeat as first rider to conquer consecutive wins at the Giro del Belvedere.

In first line to disrupt his plans will be the top Italian names, Daniel Savini (Maltinti), Matteo Fabbro (Cycling Team Friuli) and Seid Lizde (Colpack). And then, of course, the International guns, led by reigning U23 European Champion Alexandr Riabushenko (Palazzago), Axeon Hagens Berman’s Adrien Costa and Edward Dunbar (the last winner at Ronde Van Vlaanderen Beloften), and the Australia National Team riders, Michael Storer, Jay Hindley and Lucas Hamilton. In addition, the Junior World Champion in Doha (Qatar), Dane Jakob Egholm (Giant-Castelli) will take part om the race.

Pro Belvedere’ organizers confirmed the 166,6 Km route with start and finish line in Villa di Cordignano: the first part of the event unfolds along a 12-Km circuit to be repeated 11 times, including the Conche hill, whilst the finale is characterized by two laps of another circuit of 17,3 Km with the classic Montaner climb and Via delle Longhe hill, a perfect springboard in view of the finish line.

Through a written live coverage on the event’s official website,  fans will be able to follow the Easter Monday international classic from start to finish in real time, while also interacting on Twitter with the hashtag #Belvedere17.

We have to wait for tomorrow’s race, but we can be happy with the work we have done – said Gianfranco Carlet, head of the organizing committee. – 200 riders and an high level international presence represent a great result, if we consider that the calendar of this part of the season features races like ZLM Tour, Liege-Bastogne-Liege U23 and Tour of Loir”.
